If you can drive, and also know how to park a vehicle it does not mean you are ready to take a drivers license test.
There is a difference between knowing how to drive and how to drive the K53 way.
The test will be easy for you when you have the driving skills, but you will most likely fail because of the K53 observations.
The k53 drivers test does not only test your driving skills but also to monitor if you know the observations.
One of the critical factors in safe driving happens to be the observations.
In most cases students fail there drivers test because of this observations, and not on there driving skills.
"The purpose of the K53 observations is to ensure you are aware of the traffic around you. That includes the traffic behind, in front, and next to you. You need to take note of their actions and behavior and act safely to protect yourself and others from dangerous situations."
when you attend lessons at a driving school, they will learn you this observations step by step.
Remember that the K53 consist of certain actions that you have to take before moving off or before entering a parking.
On the day of the test the examiner is going to expect you to know this observations he or she is not going to tell you how these observations works.
On your yard test for light motor vehicle, you are not allowed to lose more than 50 points.
50 points sound to be allot but you can lose it in a short amount of time.
For example let say you are doing the alley docking from the right :
first you will start with the half observation (5 points)
followed with the indicator right ( 5points)
then full observation ( 5points)
blind spot left ( 5points)
If you did not done any of these observations then already you lost ( 20 points )
Now you have entered the parking without touching any obstacle, the examiner will instruct you to go to the opposite side to do the left side alley docking.
Again you must do all the necessary observations before moving off to the next stop point.
again half observation ( 5points)
indicator left ( 5points )
full observation ( 5 points)
Blind spot left before turning (5points )
Again ( 20 points ) if you did not done these observations
in total already you lost 40 points in a short time.
The examiner will continue the yard test even if you already went pass the 50 point mark, the examiner will only stop the test when the applicant touched a obstacle or mounted the shoulder or when applicant rolled.
remember that if you did not rolled, touched a obstacle or mounted a shoulder on the yard test you can still fail with points if you go over 50 points then the test is finished and you will not proceed to the road.
Observations is a must when you do your drivers license and that is why it is important to go to a driving school so that you learn this needed observations even if you are a good driver.
